where? Mogollon Rim
the hike     Explore this out-of-the-way canyon in the cool forest of the Mogollon Rim as we look for the stone face, the pioneer’s cabin, and other unforgettable sights. Wet feet are possible with our many stream crossings, depending on the weather.
    This hike is described in Flagstaff Hikes (5th. ed.) by Richard and Sherry Mangum, Hexagon Press, Flagstaff, AZ, 2001, pp.188-189.

weather Payson
meet 7:00 AM in the parking lot of the Target Center on the south side of Shea Blvd., about a mile west of Highway 87 (Beeline). For those leaving their cars behind, please park up against the north curb away from Target.
drive Take the Beeline Highway (Arizona 87) north through Payson, Pine and Strawberry to Forest Road 149, which is 1.8 miles east of the junction with Arizona highway 260. FR 149 is 1/2 mile beyond Cinch Hook Trailhead. Reset your trip odometer, turn left and go north on FR 149. At 0.4 miles, bear right on FR 616 and continue north to the trailhead, which is 2.7 miles from where you turned off the Beeline Highway.
