It was 50°F at 8:15 AM when we arrived at Wood Canyon Lake on May 8th. WOW, what a refreshing feeling!

There were 12 people signed up on this trip, but five people dropped out, so only seven of us made it to this hike. After a quick introduction we started our hiking, going counterclockwise around the lake. Rudy was the only person who had hiked this trail before, so we followed Rudy.

It is such a beautiful Lake, the water was blue green, the wind was calm, the pine trees were tall. It was still early in the morning, there were not too many people hiking on the trail, but there were many people at lake boating and fishing.

In 2 hours 15 minutes, we did 4.3 miles. Where there was once was empty space in the parking lot, now there were trucks, ATVs, and people everywhere. The lake was getting very busy.

The temperature was still very pleasant, and it was still early, so we decided we were going to do part of the Rim Lakes Vista Trail. We stopped at the first parking lot after we left Woods Canyon Lake Road, parked, and hiked to the east.

Barbara decided she was done hiking, so only six of us did the rim hike. The Rim Lakes Vista Trail is always one of my favorite trails. Every year, we come and camp here at the Rim, enjoying the cool, quiet moments. And we always hike the Rim Trail.

After we hiked 1.4 miles to the east, we decided we should return to our parking lot, because we were planning to have later lunch at Macky’s Grill for lunch at 1 PM.

It was very busy at Macky’s Grill, we took advantage of the nice comfortable temperature and chose to sit at the patio. The food was good, the service was good, we just wish they could have served the food faster next time, because we were very hungry.

Thanks to everyone who drove 2+ hours to the Rim to hike with me. I love the Woods Canyon Lake Trail and I hope we can do this trail again soon.
