the hike     As a warm up we hike FR135B to Hutch Mountain Lookout and return (3.6 miles rt, +-700'). On the south side of FR135 we will bushwhack our way up Mahan Mountain with views of the ranch below (2.9 miles rt, +-450').
The grand daddy. We drive SR3 south to Stoneman Lake turn off (FR213). Drive one mile west and park our cars. Hike FR230 a short distant then bushwhack to the top of Bill Back Butte (2.8 miles rt, +-400').
Respectively the peaks are 8532, 8270, and 7743 feet. Should be high enough to beat the valley heat.
