the hike |
This hike follows the Arizona Trail passage 30 from May Flowers Spring Trailhead
north on the AZ trail to Horse Mesa Trailhead. This little used trail is smooth and soft
with fairly flat miles which pass thru the ponderosa forest. We will pass 3 interpretative
signs along an old logging railroad bed which talk about the logging industry in Northern
Arizona. We will stop for a snack/ lunch along the way.
There will be a car shuttle. |

meet Phoenix | 7:00 AM in the Mcdonald’s parking lot on the northeast corner of I-17 & Carefree Highway. Park away from the restaurant. |
meet Flagstaff | 9:00 AM in the the parking area of the Horse Mesa trailhead. |

Horse Mesa trailhead which is reach by taking I-17 north to exit 339 for Lake Mary
Road and proceeding right/south for 17.0 miles to Ashurst Lake road where you turn left
and proceed 0.9 miles to the trailhead parking. We will carpool as a group to May
Flower Springs Trailhead and hike back to Horse Mesa Trailhead. After the hike we will
retrieve the car pool vehicles before heading to a late lunch. |
