The Trailblazers decided to take a road trip. The rim road on the Mogollon Rim has great views and many trails that lead off of it.
The road is now paved from Az 260 to Promontory Lookout. We start at the Rim Top Trailhead, which has pit toilets. We take a break here to start our journey.
At the sinkhole parking lot we stop for the views and to hike the Military sinkhole trail. The Military sinkhole trail is a nice short trail only
1.5 miles one way. It runs though a cool zone that lets plants that should only grow at a higher elevation grow here. It is called the
Military sinkhole because in past years there was a pond at the bottom the military used to water their horses. An earthquake shifted the bottom, so it
drains now.

The next stop Woods Canyon Vista. This vista has great view off the rim. Just watch your step, it is a long ways down.

The next stop Carr Lake Trailhead. This has a connection to the General Cook trail. We do another 2.5 miles of hiking here.
This has a pit toilet, so this is our lunch / snack spot.

The next stop Promontory Lookout. Too bad you can no longer go to the top.

The next stop Mogollon Rim Viewpoint. We also do a short stop at the Upper Horton Springs Trailhead.
We do a short walk down the Horton Springs Trail, but not any real good view here. The really good views are at Mogollon Rim Viewpoint.
This is due to preivous fires that have cleared the tree from this view point. We did have to cut the trip after this view point, becuase
weather was moving in. In hindsight we could have stayed longer, the weather did not hit until later.
