Seven Trailblazers met at the Groom Creek Trailhead to hike Groom Creek Loop Trail. We had absolutely perfect hiking conditions. The beautiful blue skies, temperatures in the low 40s with an expected high of 70 degrees, a lovely breeze and nice company.

After introducing ourselves we headed down the trail at 8:35 A.M. We hiked the trail counterclockwise because of the gradual elevation gain. As we hiked we hiked parallel to the road at first then we started our gradual climb of 6 miles toward the Fire Tower. We took a few breaks along the way.

As we hiked the switchbacks we were mostly in the shade of the beautiful pine trees and along with a slight breeze, we were a bit chilled. We were prepared, we all had a light jacket to put on. As we climbed we were rewarded with beautiful views of the mountains.

As we continued climbing, Vicky, Julie, and Heather hiked together. They had the same pace, and it was great to see them together. Ken of course was the speed demon. He had a partner today in Gretchen. They hiked up ahead and would wait for us to catch up. It was nice to have everyone hike at their own pace and enjoy the scenery.

We finally made it to our destination, the Fire Tower. We stopped for a snack and a well-deserved break and enjoyed the picnic tables. It was nice taking a break and chatting with everyone. We decided not to hike up to the tower instead we decided to start our descent.

We came across quite a few hikers and runners on our descent. We met one runner on the trail twice. He was on the second leg of his 30 mile run when we ran into him the second time. He told us he was training for a 50 mile run in Bryce Canyon. He was lucky it was a nice day to be running those trails.

After our hike four of us met at Bill’s café for some yummy food and white chocolate beer.
