On a beautiful day, fourteen hikers assembled at Dome Mountain Trailhead.
After introductions, we headed north on Forest Road 10.
In the distance we could see Dome Mountain.

After a short distance we took a right on Forest Route 1356.
When we reached Bulldog Canyon we went left and took an unmarked Jeep road
that continued north.
About two miles into the hike we left the Jeep road and followed a trail that
climbed over slickrock to a point behind Peak 3134.

|
Here we turned left and followed a trail that climbed steeply toward the summit.
Two of the hikers decided not to continue the climb and would wait for the rest
of us to return. After scrambling up loose rocks we made it to the top.

Dome Mountain, at 3381 feet, is the highest point in the Goldfields.
In a cairn marking the summit we found a jar with paper and pencil to record
our names. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful 360 degree view.
In the distance we could see our vehicles at the trailhead.
From the summit we hiked down and northwest.
On the way there were pieces of calcedony.
Shortly, we arrived at the western camouflage tanks.

The three tanks, a concrete water trough and a system of pipes collect,
store and make available water for wildlife.
A similar system exists in the eastern Goldfields near the Razorback.
We had lunch by the tanks. After a rest we proceeded to a saddle on the
north side of Dome Mountain and bushwacked around the mountain.
Eventually we saw the trail we had used earlier to reach the top.

Rejoining the Trail.

|
We rejoined the trail and the two hikers who had waited.
We retraced our steps and eventually intersected the Jeep road, which we
followed back to our vehicles. The hike was 7.7 miles and 1779'.
