Fourteen enthusiastic Trailblazers begin the New Year off right
with a hike at Butcher Jones Recreation Site.
Hikers include: Ted, Wendy, Karen C., Barry, Anne, Karen L., Rich,
Michael, Susan, Rosie, Ann, Ralph, Ray, and hike leader, Debbie.
Ideal hiking weather coupled with stunning views of Saguaro Lake
and the surrounding desert result in a pleasant six mile hike.
Butcher Jones trail was created along the eastern shore of Saguaro
Lake to allow for easier access to fishing.
The hike begins on a paved trail for about a quarter mile, leading
to Peregrine Point, a favorite fishing spot.
Pavement ends and the trail winds around Peregrine Cove.
The hike continues along the eastern shoreline of the lake for
about three miles. The group finds a nice spot near Burro Cove
to take a break before turning back.
Total elevation change is about 400'.
It’s definitely a day to enjoy the outdoors: people are hiking,
fishing, boating, water skiing, and picnicking.
There is a great view of Four Peaks in the distance.
Afterwards, some of the hikers enjoy a picnic at the Butcher
Jones picnic area.
Perfect weather, beautiful Arizona scenery, and enjoyable
companionship result in an ideal way to end the holiday season
and begin the New Year.
