Trailblazers at Buffalo Park on the AZT. [photo by Michael]

The Trailblazers are doing some of the passages of the AZT this summers. AZT Passage 33 runs though Buffalo Park and continue to a junction with AZT Passage 34. AZT 33 is the Flagstaff Urban Route it starts at Fisher Point, goes though Flagstaff, Buffalo Park, and ends at AZT 34. The Trailblazers have no need to walk though Flagstaff, so will start at Buffalo Park. Buffalo Park has restrooms and water, so it make a great spot to hike in Flagstaff. Buffalo Park is named for the bison that the railroad kept here, so guests on the railroad could see the wild west. The trail in Buffalo are very well marked. The trail for the AZT has been moved and graded, so this first part is an easy walk.

There are a few trails the cross the AZT so look for the AZT signs and follow them. The AZT has a lot of shade on this passage, but are some very sunny spots. We are only going to the start of the Schultx Creek Trail today and then we have lunch / snack time. Just before we get to Rocky Ridge, you cross Elden road. On the way back we have a choice of three trails. The one to left is the AZT, the one striaght ahead is a social trail that cuts some loops off of the AZT. The one to the right runs by some of the local houses and then back to the AZT. The AZT sign here does not do a great job in helping you select the correct trail.

After the hike we went to the Korean restaurent Kokiy. They let us have the box special. It was after the special hours, but they was nice and the box lunch was very good.
