Five fervent Trailblazers assembled at the Payson Basha’s store (because the dining room at McDonald’s is not open at 6 AM any more) and caravaned to the See Canyon trailhead. This involved 1.5 miles of a somewhat bumpy dirt road. We were quite surprised to arrive at the trailhead and find only one other car in the lot for this usually popular trail. We had the place to ourselves for the first half of the hike! And a beautiful hike it was.

We were treated to amazing 70 degree temperatures until almost the end of the hike, with bubbling brooks, wildflowers, ferns, overgrown long grasses, and tall trees. We also encountered an abundance of huge fallen trees and some rocky ascents and descents. I guess this trail hasn’t been groomed in a bit.

We survived the arduous climb to the Rim Road, rested a bit, and started back down. On the way back we did meet a few hikers—more on the Spring spur trail, where the water was easier to access. We made it back to the cars before the temperatures hit the high 80s/90s.

A good time was had by all who ventured out on a Sunday to see the greenery and water of Rim Country.
