We started at the Target where we all met. We drove up to Payson to the McDonald’s.
Then we drove up to the trailhead down a long dirt road. We decided to hike to the top and
do the Railroad Tunnel on the way down. There was 11 of us brave hikers,
starting on this short but fairly steep trail.
The trail gained over 2000 ft elevation in 3 miles. It was well marked and was in good shape.
We all met up at General Springs Cabin. This cabin was built in
1918 and is in good shape. It was a deluxe 1-bedroom cabin.
We ate lunch at the cabin. It was nice and shaded at the top.

“Luxury living, off the grid,” Cindy tells Tom.

Hmmm, this looks interesting, Carl and Terry.

After lunch we started back down to the side trail go to the train tunnel. When we got
to the side trail, it was a very steep and more difficult trail to the tunnel. We finally go
the tunnel and it was also a very nicely shaded area, which we all enjoyed another
well-deserved break.
The tunnel never made it through to anywhere. After we got done
enjoying the tunnel, we proceeded down the trail back to the vehicles.
For such a beautiful place, no one took very many pictures.

We decided to eat in Payson. We stopped at Macky’s Grill, and the food was great.
The hike was 6.0 miles with a elevation gain of 2200 feet.
Everyone seemed to really enjoy this hike!
