After dropping our food off at our ramada, nineteen Trailblazers carpooled a short
distance to the Holbert trailhead.

The hike was our appetite enhancer, prior to our annual potluck. It was a cold morning,
but the sun was out and promised a comfortable day to hike and especially, to eat.
The Holbert trail is only 2.5 miles each way, but after the first 0.75 miles, the trail
climbs up 1000 feet to meet the National Trail.

It was not long until we hiked out of the shadows and into the sun, resulting in
shedding layers of clothing.
We hiked up a couple of canyons, and instead of going to the end of the trail we took
the Dobbins Lookout exit trail, arriving at the lookout. There is a viewing platform that
has a bronze plate pointing to features around the valley.

Slightly below the platform is the lookout where we took some pictures. |

The lookout was constructed by the CCC in the 1930s, like many of the trails and
structures in the park. After taking our pictures, we hiked back to the trailhead, and
from there, drove back to our ramada for the potluck and awards.
