15 hearty hikers had signed up for this hike in the hope of getting away from the increasingly warm weather in the valley.

Even though usually we worry about rain and hot temperatures, this time we were a little concerned about the high wind advisor that was issued. But since we know that the forecast is not always accurate (Meteorologists “no pun intended”) we decided to give it a try; and were not disappointed. 62 degree and sunshine greeted us at the trailhead and not very windy so far.

Up we go.

Everyone made it to the first junction and was eager to start the climb to the top. Due to a fire in 2013 the mountain side did not provide the shade and cover that Chuck hat experienced on the hike a couple years earlier. But now the views were spectacular.

The wind picked up the higher we got and everyone was eager to get to the wooded area that would give us some shelter. On our way we encountered a rattler that was just out to catch some sun and not the calve of one of our hikers.

We also found out that burned trees make for a good playground:

Come on, we’re almost there.

Since it was very windy at the turnaround point we just spent enough time to get some pictures and headed back to a find a not so exposed spot to enjoy lunch and a well-deserved rest.

Once we got down from the mountain we headed into Prescott for some fun and good food, which we found at The Office Restaurant and Bar.

Happy Birthday, Anikó! [photo by Quy]

A little birdie told us that is was Anikó’s birthday; which we celebrated with ice cream and a cookie.

Thank you all for sharing this great hiking day with Gabe and me. Happy Trails!

by Jim Buyens

It was great seeing everyone on this hike. Despite the heavy winds I had a great time and I hope you did too.

Monika, you did a great job choosing and leading this event and I know everyone appreciates that. And Gabe, thanks for helping out as you always do. Anikó, once again, congratulations on your birthday. I sincerely hope you enjoy being your new age, and that we see you again often.
