Crucifix Canyon Day Hike

the hike You may have seen it from the Dolly Steamboat dinner cruise. The crucifix is a natural formation in the rocks they say, but in any case the canyon is spectacular. We’ll get there cross-country from the Horse Mesa Dam road, visit the canyon, then climb out and walk to Mesquite Flat on a primitive road. Come prepared for bushwhacking, steep, rocky slopes (gloves recommended), prickly Sonoran vegetation, and desert mountain scenery that will curl your camera.

meet 7:00 AM at Red Mountain Park located at 7745 E. Brown Rd. in Mesa (south side of Brown Road just east of Power Road).
Directions from the Red Mountain Freeway (Loop 202):
 •  exit 26 (Brown Road)
 •  Go west on Brown a half mile to the light at Sterling Dr.
 •  Turn left at Sterling into the park.
 •  Then take the first left into the Palo Brea parking lot.
drive 35 miles from Red Mountain Park to Fish Creek Canyon overlook (70 round trip).
