where Goldfield Mountains
the hike     Hat Top Hill is a distinguished formation of Tertiary rhyolite, wearing a round hat at a jaunty angle. Amazingly, the view from the top is even better than the side view! Climb this colorful peak from the east on a varied and highly scenic walk from Dome Mountain Trailhead. After enjoying terrific views from the top, walk down through a canyon of rainbow sherbet slickrock sprinkled with bright lichens. Return to Dome Mountain Trailhead on the Blue Ridge Trail.
This hike is described in Goldfield Mountain Hikes by Ted Tenny, Gem Guides, 2006, pages 65-68.
