the hike     We will spend the night before in a hotel or Airbnb in Green Valley. Madera Canyon has a lodge area (Santa Rita Lodge, which is inside of Madera Canyon, or Madera Kubo Lodges). Please check it out to see if any lodges are available in the park. Last time we were there, we saw a few deer greet us in the early morning and we also smelled the delicious breakfast from the campground there.
We will start our hike in the early morning, since during winter the sun sets sooner. We will hike from old Baldy trail up to the summit and then down to Super Trail to in total complete a 13.2 miles figure-8 loop. For those of us who do not want to do such an intense hike, you can go up to Josephine saddle to do an in and out hike that totals to about 5 miles.
On Sunday we will hike the Mt. Wrightson Nature Trail and then return to the Valley.
