the hike |
Bassett Peak in the Galiuro Wilderness is one of the top places in Arizona to view fall
colors, and early November usually is the peak time to be there. We will see cactus,
oaks, pines, maple, and aspen. Ramsey Canyon Preserve its notable variety of plant
and animal life, including such southwestern specialties as Apache and Chihuahua
pines, ridge-nosed rattlesnake, lesser long-nosed bat, elegant trogon and
Rivoli’s and Anna’s hummingbirds.
November 10, 2022, Thursday: We will go to Willcox and enjoy some vineyards wine tasting, if we plan it well, we could do some short hike before arrive Wilcox. Trail TBD. November 11, 2022, Friday: Chiricahua National Monument, The Big Loop Echo, 9.5 miles, Canyon, Upper Rhyolite Canyon, Sarah Deming, Heart of Rocks Big Balanced Rock, Inspiration Point, Mushroom Rock and Ed Riggs trail; or shorter loop of 7 miles, (Echo Canyon to Heart of Rocks and return). Those who still have energy after the hike can sample some more wine Friday evening. November 12, 2022, Saturday: Bassett Peak Trail, 11 miles or you can turn around anytime, it is in and out. The most beautiful section of Fall color is for the first 2.5 miles or so. Those who still have energy after the hike can sample some more wine Saturday evening. We need high clearance vehicles for this hike. Li will leading the long distance and fast pace group. Lin will lead the slow and short distance group. November 13, 2022, Sunday: We will drive to Ramsey Canyon Preserve to enjoy the beautiful Fall color on 1.4 miles short hike or 7.5 miles of Ramsey Canyon and Hamburg Trail. Drive back home after the hike. There are not any houses for rent in the area, so those interested should book hotel rooms in Willcox asap. For those who participating the entire trip, need to book three nights hotel in Wilcox; for some of you, you can drive up on Friday night after work to join us for weekend hikes only. If you want to drive up Saturday or leave after the hike, it is possible, but it makes for a long day of driving (almost 5 hours each way from Phoenix). For those who like to share hotel room, please let me know, I will help you to pair it up with who made a reservation. Limit: 20 people, if we have enough high clearance vehicles for the Bassett Peak hike. Person who has a high clearance vehicle has priority to join the trip. Group A: Fast and longer distance; Group B: Slower and shorter distance. |
