Johnson Wash Day Hike

where Prescott
the hike     Join me on this hike that is along a jeep road east of Prescott and is a section of the Great Western Trail. Hikers will be surrounded by acres of scrub, cactus and spotty strands of juniper and is a haven for birds, wildlife and domestic cattle.
    The hike will begin 1.57 miles at the intersection of State Highway 75 and Johnson Wash Road by a green cattle watering tank. Hikers will go past Jeep Road 9011D proceeding to the junction of Johnson Wash Road and Jeep Road 9604S. At this junction we will make a left turn proceeding north. A dry creek bed will be on our right followed by a green gate, and cattle ranching equipment on the left. The group will continue an ascent to Onion Mountain (elevation 5,500 ft.) passing by Buck Wash reaching the end of Jeep Road 9604S. We will stop for lunch, turn around, and head back to the cars.
    Pace: Moderate.
Solid hiking boots are highly recommended. Layered clothing (this trail can become windy), a broad brimmed hat (shade is very limited), 2 liters of water, and rain gear are highly recommended.

meet 8:00 AM in the McDonald’s carefree off I -17 at 3140 W Carefree Hwy, Phoenix, AZ 85086.
drive From Interstate 17 about 8 miles south of Camp Verde, take the Dewey- Humboldt exit 278 for State Route 169. Go 5.5 miles west (left) to the intersection of SR 169 to County Road 75. Turn right. Continue apx. 1.3 miles to the intersection of Johnson Wash Road (Country Road 96) and make a right turn. Head 1.57 miles east on Country Road 92 to a green cattle water tank. Park by the tank. No restrooms
