AZT 28 Gooseberry Day Hike

the hike	We will do a one way hike on Arizona Trail passage 28 (Happy Jack) from Gooseberry Springs south to FR 294 near Pine Spring. I plan to do a car shuttle, but if enough people sign up we can do a key swap.     This is a 9 mile hike at elevations over 7000 feet and gently rolling terrain. It should be a cake walk for most Trailblazers, and a nice hike through the cool pines. Required: •  Sturdy hiking boots •  At least 3 liters of water •  Rain poncho •  Hat, sunblock, sunglasses Recommended: •  Lunch or snacks •  Camera •  Small flashlight.

meet	6:30 AM in the parking lot of the Target Center on the south side of Shea Blvd., about a mile west of Highway 87 (Beeline). For those leaving their cars behind, please park up against the northwest curb away from Target. We will depart before 7 AM.
drive	•  Take Highway 87 north to Payson. We’ll make the usual MacDonald’s stop in Payson for restroom breaks and any last-minute breakfasts (to go). • From Payson stay on SR 87 to Clint’s Well and turn left onto FR 3. Continue north on FR 3 for 14.6 miles to MP 305 and turn right onto FR 294. We will wait here for all to arrive. • To reach the end trailhead, continue east on FR 294 for about 5 miles and watch for the AZT trail signs. The last mile may be a little rough on FR 294. We will leave some cars here and load into the others. • Drive back on FR 294 to FR 3 and turn right and go about 7 miles north and turn right on FR 92. The trailhead is 0.3 miles on the right.
