Sunset - Buffalo Day Hike

where Flagstaff
the hike     This mostly downhill hike will take us from Sunset Trailhead to Buffalo Park by way of the Dry Lake Hills and the western slopes of Mount Elden. Along the way we’ll pass through ever-changing life zones of the Coconino National Forest, with many fine panoramic views.
    This hike is described in Footloose from Phoenix by Ted Tenny, pages 280-285.
    The Oldham Trail is described on pages 182-183 of Flagstaff Hikes by Richard & Sherry Mangum, 5th edition, Hexagon Press, 2001.

7:00 AM in the Fry’s parking lot on the SW corner of I-17 & Bell Road. Park behind Denny’s, near the entrance to the Deer Valley Park & Ride.

If you are meeting us in Flagstaff, be at the Target parking lot at the corner of Milton and University (just north of I-17) in the corner of the lot next to the traffic light by 9:15 AM.
drive 140 miles from Bell Road to Sunset Trailhead.
