This trail is featured as the Hike of the Month in the June, 2010 issue of
Arizona Highways Magazine. From the magazine: “Of all the routes
along the Arizona Trail, segment # 34 in the San Francisco Peaks is the
best bet for summer.”
Segment 34 of the Arizona Trail runs for a full 32.3 miles, but we'll only be hiking in about 4-5 miles before we take a lunch break and then return on the same trail. This is a classic summer hike through the heavily forested slopes of the San Francisco Peaks with acres of lush bracken fern and vast flower-filled meadows thrown in for diversion and spectacular views of the San Francisco Peaks to keep your cameras busy. Rain gear is a must for this hike, since we will likely run into summer monsoon rains before the hike is over. In the event of thunder and lightening, we will turn back immediately. Required: • Sturdy hiking boots • At least 3 liters of water • Rain poncho • Hat, sunblock, sunglasses Recommended: • Lunch or snacks • Camera |
