Fourteen fantastic Trailblazers set out from Broken Arrow Trailhead on a gorgeous autumn morning. Three more started from Huckaby Trailhead and met us on the trail.

Before leaving, I appoint Michael Humphrey as deputy leader for the Huckaby Trail. Marg’s Draw Trail starts north from Broken Arrow Trailhead, crosses a wash, and after some ups and downs takes us to Marg’s Draw. Here a confusing, unmarked side trail goes left. I advise everyone to bear right and continue north on the main trail.

When we get to the meadow we can see colorful buttes ahead, but no Snoopy. It isn’t until after the turnoff for Sombart Lane Trailhead that Snoopy comes into view. The light isn’t favorable for pictures, so we hope it will improve on our way back.

Dave, Biljana and Emma soon join us. They started from Huckaby Trailhead and walked south on Marg’s Draw Trail before hiking the Huckaby Trail with us. The two groups separate at Schnebly Hill Road.  Kim, Diane, Gabe and Ted turn around and go back on Marg’s Draw Trail, while everyone else continues north to hike the Huckaby Trail to Oak Creek.

Supplemental Report
by Dave French

Twelve hikers proceeded across Schnebly Hill Road and then turned right on the Huckaby Trail. That took us to the Huckaby Trailhead instead of Oak Creek. Oh well, some needed to use the restroom there anyway. We then proceeded on the Huckaby Trail about 2.5 miles to Oak Creek. We stopped there for lunch snacks, and to enjoy the shade, babbling of Oak Creek, and good company.

On the way back, Michael suggested we take the old trail. When we reached the point where the new trail heads sharply uphill, we could see where the old trail stayed low along the creek. It was blocked off by the Forest Service with logs and rocks, so we decided to respect their decision and proceeded back on the trail we came in on. When we reached the junction with Marg’s Draw trail, we stopped to make sure everyone was with us. The three hikers that had parked at Huckaby Trailhead departed. The remaining nine of us hiked the 2 miles back to the Broken Arrow Trailhead on Morgan Road.

At Michael’s suggestion, we stopped in Village of Oak Creek at the Blue Moon Café. Fitting choice with the super moon scheduled for Sunday and Monday nights. We had good burgers or sandwiches and cold beer. Mark and Michael hammed it up afterwards in the parking lot.
