West Boulder Saddle Day Hike

where	Superstition Wilderness
the hike	We’ll start north from the Carney Springs parking lot following the old Jeep road, crossing the Lost Goldmine Trail and the wilderness boundary. Then climb the steep West Boulder Trail up to the saddle, where we’ll have a magnificent overview of West Boulder Canyon and the Superstition Ridgeline. We’ll explore around the saddle, then return by the same route.     This hike is described on pages 170-172 of Superstition Wilderness Trails West by Jack Carlson and Elizabeth Stewart. Bring: •  At least 3 liters of water •  Sturdy hiking boots •  Hiking poles •  Lunch/sandwich/energy bars •  Sunscreen •  Camera

weather	Apache Junction
meet	7:30 AM at Home Depot in Mesa on the southeast corner of Power and US 60.
drive	•  Take U.S. 60 (the Superstition Freeway) east, past Apache Junction. Turn north on Peralta Road, just past mile marker 204. • Go 6 miles to the turnoff for Carney Springs Trailhead on the left. • If you reach the Peralta Trailhead, you’ve gone too far. • If you are meeting us at Carney Springs Trailhead, be there by 8:15 AM.
