| the hike |
Start on the Lost Goldmine Trail going by the Dacite Cliffs Mine up the West
Boulder Trail by Carney Springs.
This part of the trail will be in shadow because sunrise is 6:06 AM, which
is about when we start hiking.
The wildflowers may be blooming at this time and these trails will give us a
great view of them.
At the Superstition Ridgeline, go right instead of left. At this point we can
look down at the valley and see the masses of flowers in bloom.
We are now on top of the Dacite Cliffs on the Dacite Mesa Trail.
This is the less-traveled part of the Superstition Ridgeline.
The flowers up here will be small, if present at all. When we get to the
robbers’ meadow for their horses, we will stop for lunch.
There is a small spring here that causes this area to have moss, grass, and
other wildlife. After lunch, hike down to the Robbers’ lookout area.
The water has cut a little bowl under a large boulder here, which makes for
a nice traffic circle. A little bit of climbing may be need here.
This leads to some windows above the Dacite Cliffs we passed on the hike in.
We will then return to the meadow and pick up any of the group that decided to have a longer lunch here. Continue around the mesa and get to the trail down to Fremont Saddle. This part of the trail is long slow decent to Fremont Saddle. Going through Peralta canyon we have a chance to see more flowers, arches and other rock formations. Required: • Sturdy hiking boots • At least 3 liters of water • Hat, sunblock, sunglasses Recommended: • Lunch or snacks • Camera • Hiking Poles |
