Bulldog Canyon to River Day Hike

where Goldfield Mountains
the hike     A one-way trail walk will take us to the Salt River at Blue Point Trailhead by way of Bulldog Canyon in the Tonto National Forest. Our route is through a region of colorful Sonoran vegetation and wildlife, with expansive views of the rugged western skyline of the Goldfields (cameras recommended).
    Starting from Idaho Access, we’ll hike the Idaho Pass Trail, bushwhack in Bulldog Canyon, then follow FR 10 north to Blue Point Trailhead.
    Part of this hike is described on pages 33-34 of Goldfield Mountain Hikes by Ted Tenny, mapped on pages 149,148,151.

weather Apache Junction
meet 7:00 AM at Blue Point Trailhead, on the Bush Highway near the Salt River.
Directions from Phoenix on the Red Mountain Freeway (Loop 202):
•  Exit 23A (Power Road).
Turn left and go north on Power, which becomes the Bush Highway.
Continue east on the Bush Highway past Usery Pass Road [stop sign].
When you get 1.9 miles past the stop sign, park at the trailhead, which is on the right side of the road.
If you reach the bridge, turn around and go back 1/3 mile.
