the hike	Varied surfaces: gravel, sand, wash, compacted dirt, rock slabs. Be sure to stop occasionally and turn round 360 – the scenery is gorgeous!     Flat desert vistas nicely broken up by bluffs. Decomposed granite trail. First half is gentle, gradual constant uphill. Rocky cave and boulders near the halfway point. See map below:

drive	•  E Shea Blvd exit 41 off 101 • E Shea Blvd to McDowell Mountain Park Dr • Turn left onto McDowell Mountain Park Dr 16300 McDowell Mountain Park Dr Scottsdale, AZ 85268 • Turn Left off McDowell Mountain Park Road onto Tom Thumbs Dr. • Parking will be a “Bump-Out” Parking area along Right side of road at the trailhead. • If you reach Palisades or Rock Nob you’ve gone too far. • There are restrooms along Tom Thumbs Dr past Rock Nob.
