Goldfields
Four Peaks and Top O’ the Goldfields from Peak 3113.

Seven sure-footed Trailblazers set out from Meridian Trailhead on a gorgeous spring morning. The climb to Bulldog Saddle is invigorating.

Then we have our first surprise: where there was nothing before, now there is a trail marked with cairns from Bulldog Saddle up to peak 3113. It’s a good route.

The view from the peak is awesome!

Temptation
Temptation Peak, here we come!

After breathing a bit we head south along a rugged rocky ridgeline for Temptation Peak. There are buttes along the way which we have to climb over or around.

Everyone re-convenes at the saddle for group pictures and more amazing views.

We have to contour around Temptation Peak to get to the main part of the peak 3108 ridgeline. All but Herm, who climbs the peak forthwith.

Goldeneye horned toad
Longleaf False Goldeneye and horned toad welcome us to their desert domain.

There are more buttes on the way to peak 3108, and then a surprisingly smooth park-like area. We finish the easy climb and enjoy our picnic lunch on top of the world.

Which way is down? Ted has done it before, and leads us south then southeast to a steep, rocky canyon flowing down to the Bulldog Canyon wilderness. It’s a rough descent with multiple butt-slides until we finally get down to a moderate slope.

lichen
Fred Fungus and Alice Algae, of lichen fame.

The challenging part of the hike is over when we reach the Idaho Pass Trail. Here you can get to Dome Mountain Trailhead any of three ways. We choose the Bulldog Canyon route, which is the most scenic.

Here Bill and Ted take different directions, with Bill leading the adventurers on a Bulldog Canyon bushwhack while Ted leads the moderate hikers on the trail.

We re-convene on rhyolite near the Mask Arches.

Bill, Herm, and Chip hike to Dome Mountain Trailhead on the horse trail while Ted, Becky, Ajay and David take the express route on Forest Service Road 1356.

Along the way there are spring blossoms and then motor traffic on the road. Otherwise we’ve met no one since we saw two young hikers climbing down to Bulldog Saddle.

Beer and good wishes cheer us after a colorful hike.

Ridgeline
The Peak 3108 Ridgeline is like a walk in the park, you say?
