Bluff Springs Mountain Loop
Superstiton Mountains

Leader: Rick Scott
Date: December 1996

The weather couldn't have been better for this nine mile hike in some beautiful Superstition Mountain wilderness. It was cold in the early morning but quickly warmed up by the time we got to Miner's Needle.

The trail took us on a wide swing around Miner's Needle that allowed us to view most sides of it. We crossed over Whiskey saddle where we started our decent to the base of Bluff Springs mountain. We had lunch at the base of the mountain in a scenic wash. The next mile or so was in a canyon as we headed in a beeline toward Weaver's Needle, which peaked up over the ridge that separated us from it.

The canyon turned south where we started a slow ascent that afforded us great views of Weaver's Needle. When we reached the top of the west wall of this canyon, we had great views of not only the needle, but of the large expanses of desert and mountain country surrounding us. The last mile of trail was a steep decent down to the Peralta trailhead where we had parked our cars.
