22 Trailblazers were the first to fill up the parking lot at the Picketpost Trailhead on a pleasant Black Friday morning and introduced themselves. We left from the relatively new Legends of Superior (LOST) trailhead, cutting 0.2 miles off of our distance. We joined the loop trail and stopped to shed some layers at the old dam.

We continued along our way, seeing some evidence of the Telegraph fire’s damage and a little bit of water in the wash with the tiniest of waterfalls.

Soon we began to see teasers of fall colors, and before too long we were in a tree shaded wonderland of browns and reds. Superior is one of the latest fall color peaks in the state. We continued through the verdant area with several shallow water crossings and stopped for a break before the entrance of Telegraph Canyon, where the road from the Apache Tears mine joins the main trail.

On our way again, we soon said goodbye to the canyon and entered the desert world of the back of Picketpost. No critters were encountered, but we saw a lot of desert splendor as we made our way alongside the mountain.

Eventually we reached the trailhead, having worked off some Thanksgiving calories and enjoyed a morning of good companionship, weather, fall colors and desert.

Until next year...
