Holbert, National and Corona de Loma Trails Loop Day Hike

where South Mountain Park
the hike     It will be a loop hike at the middle of South Mountain Park. My third prepare-to-hike-the-Grand Canyon hike starts on the Holbert Trail. We hike to the Dobbins Lookout, gaining 997 feet in 2 miles. We then backtrack a bit and continue on Holbert until we reach the National Trail, where we head east for 1.5 miles, gaining another 320’. We then descend the Corona de Loma Trail half way where we turn around and regain in one mile 713’. We continue on National and Holbert retracing our steps back to the Holbert Traihead and our cars.
Expect beautiful desert terrain, subtle fall colors, expansive views of the South Mountains, and of the city below. Required:
•  Sturdy hiking boots
•  At least 3 liters of water
•  Hat, sunblock, sunglasses

•  Go to Baseline Road and Central Ave.
Go south on Central Ave and continue on into South Mountain Park. Follow the signs for the South Mountain Environmental Education Center and Holbert Trailhead.
