This is an easy beginner backpack. This is a good fall hike, nights still be above freezing. We start off in the parking lot for the marina and cross AZ-88 to the trailhead. Even though some of this is off trail, the off trail is the LaBarge creek bottom. So long as LaBarge is not flowing heavily this is a dry easy path. We will start by climbing Frog peak and get a great view of Canyon Lake, Battleship Mountain, and others. Once in LaBarge we will go off trail and follow LaBarge downhill to a riparian area. We will pass many interesting rock formations here as LaBarge has cut down though the rock. There is also a slot canyon here. The riparian area is our overnight camping area. The next day we will continue downhill until we are close to canyon lake and have to do the hardest part of this hike. We will exit LaBarge and pick up Boulder Canyon Trail to get back to our cars. |
