Guest Speaker
Karen Larson presented a slide show on
Zion National Park.
The park has many scenic hiking trails.
The club could have a trip to Zion National Park in 2009.
-
Hike Leader Training
This event will be re-scheduled.
The club’s greatest need is for more people to lead hikes.
-
Club Policies regarding Trip Deposits and Sharing Gas Expenses
When a deposit is required, it must be paid by all participants at the time they
sign up. The trip leader will announce the deadline on cancellation refunds,
i.e. when the cancellation must be received in order to get a refund of the
deposit. This is necessary to protect the leader, who has to pay money in
advance for reservations.
When car-pooling, each rider is to share in gas expenses. The actual cost can
be determined by filling up the car at the meeting place, and then filling it
up again after returning. Since the driver also has to pay for maintenance,
depreciation, and insurance, it seems fair that the riders pay for gas.
New hike descriptions will include the number of miles driven from the meeting
place to the trailhead.
-
Reports
- Treasurer
- If elected, Sheila Grant will be taking over as Treasurer.
- Webmaster
- The main AZHC page features a picture from Boynton Canyon and a link

received from the paid members who were absent.

-
Forwarding commercial announcements to club members
The club officers often receive commercial announcements by email.
These are not forwarded to the other people on the AZHC mailing list.
-
AZHC credit card
Bank fees are reduced if the Treasurer uses the card once a month.
-
Hike Leader Training
We’ll include it on Debbie’s Boynton Canyon hike on November 1.
The club’s greatest challenge is getting people to lead hikes,
especially in the summer. Other kinds of summer events should be scheduled.
If each officer leads one or more summer events, we could schedule at least
one a month.

necessary to go back and remove all hikers’ names from all trip reports.
But in future reports we will use only the hikers’ first names, sparingly.

Planning for 2008
Everyone shared their ideas about what the club should do in 2008:
| • |
Our guest speaker at the March meeting will be from
Superstition Search and Rescue.
At a later meeting, Michael Humphrey plans to
present a slide show of great pictures from hikes in 2007.
Speakers will be needed for three more meetings. |
| • |
We should have an out-of-state camping trip in mid-summer.
Mesa Verde National Park and
Durango, Colorado, were mentioned as possible destinations. |
| • |
Summer outings are wonderful outreach events. |
| • |
The club’s greatest need is hike leaders.
We should have another hike leader training event, and encourage
everyone who has ever thought of leading a hike for the
Trailblazers put their hike on the schedule.
